Kitchen Tip: How to extend the life of your Cilantro
Are you obsessed with Cilantro like I am? Are you tired of your cilantro going bad before you've used it all? Just by changing the way you store your cilantro you can drastically extend its life!
I love cilantro and it's bright, fresh flavor and honestly at this point I feel like I have substituted cilantro for lettuce in my diet! I really love using it in my cooking and after being frustrated about its short shelf life my girlfriend, Elizabeth, and I decided there must be a better way to store it. After some trial and error we started storing our cilantro in a jar with water. After that first bunch we knew we wouldn't be storing it any other way!
Some love it and some hate it, but let's take a look and see how we can extend the life of our Cilantro!
Step 2: Look around your kitchen and find any wide mouth container or jar! Really anything will work, but I suggest a glass jar for aesthetics and ease of cleaning.
Step 3: IMPORTANT: Unwrap the band that holds the cilantro bunch together! This will allow more air to move throughout the stems and help reduce mold and build up inside your container. Next, cut the tips of the stems off and place the cilantro in your container and fill with enough water to reach and cover the stems and refrigerate.
Step 4: When using the cilantro remember to pull out and use or discard each whole stem. If you do this it will allow more space for your cilantro and prevent buildup in the water and on the remaining stems! The water should last as long as your cilantro does but feel free to change it as frequently as you like.
Don't be afraid to try this with other herbs too! As always keep in touch and ENJOY! Let me know if you try this method and your thoughts about it! If you leave a comment or tag me in your social media posts I might have a special gift for you!
Cheers,
Andrew
